It’s weird, I don’t have a ton of memories fro It’s weird, I don’t have a ton of memories from my childhood. But one thing has stayed with me, one vivid memory, or perhaps collection of similar memories rolled into one. It’s a memory of holding my mother’s hand and comparing our skin. But in that completely non-judgemental, loving way that only children can do. I’d study my soft, smooth, blemish free hands and then compare them with the spots and grooves on my mother’s hands. I’d imagine how, one day, I’d look down at my hands (these same fresh, young hands that I was seeing) and they would reveal similar telltale signs of ageing. Instead of feeling fear or trepidation I’d be filled with awe and wonder.

And now, all too suddenly, I’m holding my child’s hand and my mother’s hand has become my own. And once again, nothing but awe and wonder.
