To 365 or not to 365

They say it takes 30 days to form a new habit. So what does 365 days form? An addiction. I was looking forward to the end of the year, since the 365 project took up so much of my time. I really wanted to get stuck into other projects. I had a long list of things I wanted to accomplish this year with all my extra free time. I was going to learn to sew and knit, work on the million and one ideas for crochet patterns swimming around in my head; I was thinking of doing a quick sketch everyday to try to improve my (lack of) drawing skills; I was going to do things that normal people do like, you know, housework. But most of all I wanted to practice being more in the moment rather than always trying to get the perfect photo. The thing is, when the first of January rolled around, instead of feeling free and inspired I felt a little dejected. I walked around, a bit aimlessly, thinking “wasn’t there something I was supposed to…. Oh yeah, I finished that” (anticlimactic thud).
So here is what I have decided…
Because I can’t stick to just one portrait a week, I will be doing a sort of ‘weekly round-up’ every Saturday. I will be posting a selection of Lamb’s photos of our week too. I will of course omit any photos of me doing the drunkard’s one-eye-open-one-eye-half-shut look or the classic stunned-by-the-flash look (also, any up-the-nostrils photos – no one looks good from this perspective).
I will be doing a 10-on-10 (on the tenth of every month) series with a group of amazingly talented photographers.
On the ninth of every month I will be doing the usual ‘This is what my kid is up to this month’ post.
And I will continue to spam Facebook with baby photos – because that’s just what mothers do.

  1. I love that you're continuing your passion, finding a balance of routine and grace in it. Looking forward to seeing more of your incredible photography. Participating in Rebekah Gough's 10-on-10 Challenge has encouraged me to be more visually aware throughout my day–and so has following your 365 project.

  2. Ahhhhh! your tongue in cheek humor comes out in your writing as well! You are a talented Mama! Can't wait to see all the goodness that this year brings for you. xo
