LAMB: I wanted to document some of the antique bonnets I’ve collected for you over the years. The only problem was that as soon as I put the bonnet on you you would rip it right off again. In the end I did what I swore I’d never do if I ever had children (another one for the ever-growing list) , I said “If you keep the bonnet on mummy will give you a treat”. As soon as you heard the word ‘treat’ your eyes lit up, “treat?” you echoed and you instantly complied with my request. You put the bonnet on and stood where I told you but refused to take the sour, defiant toddler expression off your face. This is the closest I got to a smile.

Oh, my. I'm a bonnet fan and this is stunning!
Thank you. This is one of my favourites! I have a few from the 20's but this is probably the earliest one I have. The ribbon is very tattered but you can't really tell – at least not in photographs.
